The Morning Mist Homestead is a log cabin that was built around 1850 and was added on to around 1920. On December 28th, 1846 Iowa was founded as a state. We have restored this Homestead to the original logs of the 1850s. Renters will see the draw knife marks on the logs and the pegs in the door ways to hold the logs in place from back then. We made this place into something that has the authenticity it deserves while offering the modern utilities to host. The two bedrooms are upstairs. A king sized bedroom and one queen sized bedroom that also includes a queen size futon. In the queen's bedroom there is also a half bathroom with a privacy curtain. The bedrooms are cooled by a Judiso unit in each that are controlled individually. The large kitchen seats 8 and has the basic utensils for hosting. The double door can be opened up into the TV room which holds a queen size futon and recliner. A sitting room with a fireplace has another futon that sleeps 2 adults. A semi private TV room with a queen size converta-bed also has a functional sink for any of those hunter/fisherman hands. The bathroom downstairs has a washer and dryer available along with a Whirlpool tub that holds one.The large deck view table seats ten people. A gas grill or firepit is available for guests. The Homestead is the only pet friendly rental we offer at this time. We also have the Cabin and the Cottage and the three together accommodate up to 27 people. This works great for reunions, Holidays, or even wedding parties. The Morning Mist nature trail on the property is on the 120 acres that you are welcome to explore. We also allow limited hunting on the property with the proper licensing. Locally there are several venues in the surrounding area. Trout fishing; Mississippi River boating and fishing; golf courses; city swimming pools; Historical sites: (The Field of Dreams); Casinos. Come for a relaxing time and visit the surrounding area. Did we mention that there are several Amish stores in the area as well?
