This is a long overdue review. We wanted to wait to see where it was that South Forks memory would be, and the memory has stayed close to the heart. We find ourselves thinking about the stay, and how special it was. There are very few places that allow you to fully immerse yourself into the natural surroundings without distraction. The room is everything that you would expect to have for a romantic or soul searching getaway. I can only add that we find ourselves discussing when we will be back and for how long! This property has something to offer for everyone, from the romantic, to the professional, to the outdoor enthusiast. All attentions to detail have been met to ensure a gracious stay. South Fork is a destination that a person or couple can plan getaways for whichever needs they want to fill. We slept wonderfully, relaxed, and allowed the undertones of the river to calm ourselves. Our morning was crisp, with some fresh snow and a bright sun peaking between the Mountains. It is a picture that will stay with us forever! Next time we will bring our two dogs as well, that is the only part of the stay we would have changed. There is many trails to take hikes on with them. Thanks for the compliments on the place. I put my heart and soul into making it warm, welcome, romantic and comfortable for all. It will be wonderful to have you back anytime!
First, the accomodations were impeccable. It is very much a cabin environment with all top end aminities. It was clean and everything you'd need to stay indoors for a handful of days was right at your fingertips. Second, the host (Melissa) was simply delightful. She was welcoming, warm and giving. She was kind enough during our 4 night stay to bring us some treats. We left Seattle to spend the first Christmas with our 7 month old daughter, and the South Fork lodge did not disappoint. It was secluded enough to really feel like you escaped from the city (Seattle), but still convenient enough to trot to Gold Bar or Sultan to get the supplies you needed to go into hibernation for a few days. There were some minor disappointments. The road to get to the cabin is chock full of tire ruining potholes, and the cabin isn't a cabin in the strictest of senses. As for the pot holes, other than lobbying the community to fix them there is little that Melissa can do to overcome this minor inconvenience. Regarding the cabin, she and her husband have certainly created a cabin-like feel with this retreat, but it's not a cabin in the middle of the woods as one might expect. The views were astonishing and beautiful. At the fork in the river, this little gem in the woods offered some seriously memorable scenery. Net: this is a lovely and affordable place to consider if you want to truly escape and live in solitude for a few days/weeks. My wife and I had a very memorable time and would definitely consider paying another visit to South Fork lodge. Put it on your "to do" list. My wife and I had a thoroughly wonderful time at Southfork Lodge. The owner was extremely conscientious and communicative, the accommodations were great and the solitude was just what we needed. We awoke to a gentle snow and enjoyed sitting in the hot tub watching the snow fall settle down toward the river, the morning clouds breaking now and again to reveal snow dusted peaks and forests. We look forward to coming back again someday. Recommended for: Romantic Getaway
Helpful votes:0/0. My wife stayed here for 5 nights for our anniversary. We considered areas in Arkansas, Montana, Vermont and a couple areas further east in Washington, but settled on this area. A couple of highlights are: * The cabin itself was clean, spacious and comfortable. Even with our (4) suitcases, plenty of room. The mattress was very comfortable and so were the sheets... * The Skykomish River that runs in front of the cabin is beautiful and full of fish. It's easy to wade and there were a good number of 6-8" trout in the riffles, and larger trout in the bend of the river, directly in front of the cabin. Most were 12 -14", but the largest caught was in the 18 - 20" range. * The view is better than the pictures. * The hiking is plentiful and close. The trailhead for Bridal Falls/ Lake Serene is at the beginning of Mt Index River Road. The Bridal Falls Hike is fairly easy...Lake Serene hike is fairly difficult. Lake Serene hike was my wife's favorite hike...ever. * The location is perfect....only 70 or so miles from Seattle, 30 miles or so from Monroe (Adam's Bistro is a nicer restaurant in Monroe that was very good)..and 70 miles or so from Leavenworth...very convenient to restaurants and grocery stores. * The owner...very helpful and very friendly without being intrusive... * The problem...actually, there were no problems...5 days, full of hiking, fishing, exploring and resting...with no problems... When we booked this cabin, neither my wife nor I had been to the area, and we had to rely completely on information we found researching the internet....Now, after seeing everything in person and having a explored the area....we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else... We will definitely return. Recommended for: Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
Hello all: "We live in the beautiful North West" That phrase must have been created by someone that was standing on the deck of "South Fork Lodge" The scenery is breathtaking and I turn around and the pleasure continues with the lovely interior of the lodge. Truly something to behold. I am really not sure what to attribute the wonderful night sleep. Weather it was the clean crisp mountain air, or the cozy ambiance of the lovely fireplace, or the most comfortable supper King size bed or the combination of them all but I slept glorious. The Lady that created this place of beauty Is The reason for it's feel. Her hospitality is unsurpassed. Thank you Tom
This was a great little get away. Beautiful inside! It has a gorgeous rock fireplace that is gas, so I didn't have to mess with firewood. There are lots of windows on the river side but few others. so very private. The deck is nice sized with a little fire pit and a small hottub. Tons of great hikes nearby and a little general store only a couple miles away. Thumbs up!

This was a very relaxing spot right on the River with Great View of both the River and the Mountains. We found a great Hike to Barkley Lake about a 4 mile round trip easy Hike with Great Views, we also walked a short Distant form South Fork to Sunset Falls and saw 100's of Salmon swimming up steam. South Fork has a full Kitchen a Hot Tub and Free WiFi and a great flat screen TV over the Gas Fired Fireplace. We had a wonderful time and will return again soon!
