Next time you plan to come to the High Country of Western North
Carolina for a mountain getaway, consider staying at the charming
Maple Tree Log Cabin – a secluded retreat tucked away in a
forest of old maple trees that reach to the sky. You’ll be able
to enjoy a first-hand connection with nature as you cohabit the land
with native mountain flora and fauna at your doorstep –
mountain laurel and rhododendron, delicate tiny wildflowers, deer,
rabbits and native North Carolina songbirds to waken you from your
night’s sleep. Maple Tree Log Cabin is just a hop, skip and a
jump from downtown West Jefferson, and is close to anything you could
possibly want to do with your time in the mountains. Spring, Summer,
Autumn and Winter – every season of the year brings special
opportunities for you to reconnect with nature in all her glory.
Outdoor lovers will especially enjoy the proximity to Mount Jefferson
State Park and the Bluff Mountain Nature Preserve. If you like being
on and in the water, you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, or floating
down the historic New River, one of the last wild rivers in the US.
You might also bicycle along the popular nine-mile Railroad Grade
Road, a pleasant (and flat) route that also follows the New River
between Todd and Fleetwood. Or you can hike, camp, horseback ride and
take amazing photographs along hundreds of miles of well-marked
trails. Bring (or rent) a rod and reel so you can try catching some
fresh mountain trout from a rippling mountain stream and cooking it
for dinner. If you’ve got more of a downtown inclination,
spend a day or two checking out the many fine and unique shops,
boutiques, galleries, coffee shops and restaurants that bring central
West Jefferson alive each and every day. Check out the weekly Farmers
Market, monthly Art Stroll, and quarterly performances done by the
local Ashe County Little Theatre. From Spring through the Fall
seasons, weekends are filled with a variety of music, craft and BBQ
food festivals. The local winery offers tours and tastings and
provides a picnic area for you to enjoy your noonday meal. And
don’t miss out on touring the award-winning Ashe County Cheese
Factory. After all your adventures downtown and out in the wilds of
the High Country, you’ll find everything you need just waiting
for you at the Maple Tree Log Cabin, which features two bedrooms (one
king-size bed and one queen-size bed) and two full baths. You’ll
surely
