My husband, 9yr. old daughter and I stayed at The Walleye Lodge recently and loved it! First of all the landlord Jim is very attentive, down-to-earth and he responded immediately to any questions I had. He stayed out of our way and didn't bother us unless we needed him. The décor was very cute with a fishing theme. Even though we were quite busy doing various tourist activities each day and got up early and sometimes arriving back at bedtime, The Walleye Lodge had everything we needed: Stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, etc. for when we wanted to cook while there. (There was a Kroger grocery store open 24hrs. a few miles away where we bought some groceries.) A washer/dryer was in our rental for our use, which was nice to have. All the linens and towels were provided & plenty of beds and also ceiling fans & air conditioning, which we appreciated. Cable TV, which my husband enjoyed each night and wireless internet, which my daughter enjoyed with her laptop. There was an outdoor patio with table & chairs to use, but we were too tired at the end of the day to use them. (But nice to have if interested.) Jim referred us to Fisherman's Wharf, a few blocks away, so we went there and paid to go out on a boat fishing on Lake Erie. It was something we never did before and we loved it! Across the street from Fisherman's Wharf was a company that cleaned & filleted our fish for only $5.00 so you can't beat that! Our landlord Jim even offered to cook our fish for us that we caught out on the lake, even though we declined wanting to take the fish home to cook for our sons at home. Now THAT's a pretty cool landlord! I have stayed at other places where I had to wash linens before I left, or sweep the floors, etc. But Jim took care of everything. The neighborhood was very quiet and laid-back and also the town was quaint and charming, so we enjoyed the peacefulness and laid-back atmosphere. We really felt at home there. Infact, Jim came out, shook our hands & hugged us goodbye when we left, checking to see if we were happy during out stay and I assured him we were. He treated us like family! I will definitely go back there if I ever get the chance and I will spread the word to others about the great time I had there! It was much more cozy and personable than staying at a hotel. I would highly recommend the Walleye Lodge to anyone. Outstanding owner and very friendly neighborhood is located in close proximity to great restaurants, bars, and all local attractions. Six of us stayed for the weekend and had the time of our life. I would advise visitors check out the Ala Carte Cafe for breakfast and Mr. Eds after midnight. Nice, clean, super convenient to the ferry boat to Put-In-Bay. I would stay again.
